Sports business leaders form NIL-focused practice, securing official partnerships with LSU and The University of Texas to provide comprehensive education and support around all NIL-related issues
WASHINGTON D.C., October 5, 2020 – Altius Sports Partners (“ASP”), a leading-edge name, image and likeness (“NIL”) advisory and education firm, today announced two new partnerships with Louisiana State University and The University of Texas, bringing decades of expertise into the top echelon of collegiate athletics. ASP will build customized NIL programs for each athletic department, focusing on the strengths of each program. ASP is also finalizing a deal with Arizona State University Athletics. The programs will include management of NIL rule changes, maximization of new opportunities, and helping each program achieve the highest standards of excellence for its staff, coaches, and student athletes, from education and recruiting to administration and fundraising.
“We set out to create the Dream Team of NIL by first identifying all areas the rule changes will impact – education, compliance, coaching, recruiting, fundraising, media, commercial opportunities and vetting third parties, from content curators to agents. Then, we targeted the best-of-the-best for our team and created a business model that allows universities to tap into our group of experts as if they were part of an outsourced vertical to their athletic departments,” said ASP CEO Casey Schwab.
At a pivotal moment in college athletics, ASP offers its partners a team of industry leading voices to help guide and educate all stakeholders on the impacts and opportunities related to NIL rule changes. By collaborating with ASP, LSU and Texas have positioned themselves and their student athletes to be leaders in preparing for the NIL policy scheduled to go into effect in 2021. ASP will further provide strategic planning, compliance support, recruiting tools, fundraising solutions, corporate partner management, and third-party vetting – all focused on NIL.
“We are excited about this strategic relationship with Altius Sports Partners as we navigate the new frontiers in college athletics brought about by NIL legislation,” University of Texas Vice President and Director of Athletics Chris Del Conte said. “Combining our internal, best-in-class NIL educational program LEVERAGE with the subject matter experts at Altius, the Texas Longhorns are hands-down the best positioned in the country to maximize opportunities for our student-athletes, while protecting the integrity of collegiate sports.”
“This relationship with Altius is all about positioning LSU Athletics to fully realize the opportunities that will come with name, image and likeness for our student-athletes,” said LSU Athletic Director Scott Woodward. “We want to be forward thinking in all that we do and the talented team at Altius is an incredible resource for us to draw from as we navigate this exciting new landscape in college athletics,"
The expert-led ASP program will provide each athletic department with the educational support to not only manage imminent changes that will allow student athletes to earn compensation for the use of their NIL and take greater control over the marketability of their careers, but also to become national leaders on the subject.
ASP’s holistic, phased approach to institutional and student-athlete support includes:
• Critical analyses of school-specific NIL threats and opportunities
• Specialized instruction for student athletes, coaches, administrators, and staff to understand the new landscape and capitalize on their opportunities
• Ongoing support through continued monitoring of NCAA compliance and all emerging NIL related issues, including passed or pending state and federal legislation
ASP has brought together a cross-disciplinary team from higher education, college athletics, branding, media, sports law, NIL commercialization, sponsorship, athlete relations, coaching, recruiting, college administration, social justice, and NCAA compliance. ASP leadership includes CEO Casey Schwab, Founding Partner David Carter, Founding Partner John Entz, Education Consultant Gabe Feldman, and Coaching Consultant Urban Meyer, along with Advisors Jené Elzie, Oliver Luck, Jessica Mendoza, Kenneth Shropshire, and Malcolm Turner. Collectively, the team has worked with dozens of sports organizations, including the NFL Players Association, NCAA, NFL, NBA, FOX Sports, ESPN, XFL, Wasserman, and universities across the country.
